A Personal Message from Mark Clifford
Dear Members & Spa Guests,
I am writing to inform you that the company operating Clifford Health Club & Spa has today formally entered liquidation.
This is not the outcome I had hoped for, and I am personally very saddened that, despite our best efforts, the business could not recover following the recent fire, the out of Context BBC report and the significant challenges that have followed.
However, I am pleased to confirm that the facility will continue operating under new ownership as The Regent Health Club & Spa.
The new company is committed to protecting as many memberships, spa vouchers and staff roles as possible. All employees are transferring under TUPE regulations, and there are exciting plans to invest significantly in improving facilities, services and the overall member/guest experience — marking the beginning of a new chapter for the club and spa
What This Means For You (All changes effective from 1st March)
Lifetime Members
Signature, Diamond, Emerald and Sapphire lifetime memberships will continue to be honoured, subject to a £30 annual administration fee. Guest privileges will remain, with some minor adjustments to class and massage booking processes to be announced shortly.
Members holding duplicate Diamond memberships will transition to a single Diamond membership.
Clifford Health Club and Ashbourne Peak paid-in-full legacy memberships will not transfer to the new company. Affected members will be contacted directly to discuss rejoining options. To put this in context these memberships were complementary or paid less than £200 generally between 10 and 18 year ago
All other paid-in-full memberships will continue to be honoured in full.
Further details regarding Silver, Platinum, Diamond and Ruby monthly direct debit memberships will be communicated within the next 7 days.
All other direct debit members will continue the same.
Spa Voucher Holders
All spa vouchers purchased from 1st January 2024 will be honoured will now have no expiry date, subject to a £4.99 per person administration fee per visit. The same applies to return visits held on account from this date.
Why Is There an Administration Fee?
The new company has chosen to recognise previous commitments wherever possible. The administration fee contributes towards system transfers, operational costs and honouring historic arrangements under new ownership.
Without this support, previous memberships and vouchers would not have been transferable.
New websites will launch this evening:
Following a week of staff training, phone lines will reopen on Thursday 19th February.
For queries in the meantime:
The gym remains open with temporary restrictions while essential repair works continue. The target date to reopen the spa and studios remains 1st March.
On a personal note, it has been an incredible 19-year journey. I am deeply grateful to our loyal members, spa guests and dedicated staff who have supported the club throughout the years. Sadly, the fire and then some suspect media headlines beat me.
While I will not be involved in the decision-making of the new company, I will be supporting during the transition period where appropriate.
Thank you sincerely for your support over the years.
Kind regards,
Mark Clifford
